While staying in Mauritius you have the choice to opt for guided tours or to discover the paradise island on your own by hiring a car or by travelling by public bus.  There are a number of tour organizers in Mauritius who organize sightseeing tours, outer island tours and eco-tourism. Air Mauritius has two helicopters available for sightseeing tours and transfers. Some of the services that these organizers offer include welcome and assistance at the airport, return transfers in air conditioned cars and mini-buses, private transfer in limousine, special tailor-made itineraries and tours for groups with team coordinators for follow up and assistance, deep sea fishing, catamaran cruise, safari, hunting… A few of the many unforgotable places that you will be visiting around the island are La Vanille Crocodile Park, Casela Nature and Leisure Park, Port Louis Central Market, Chamarel Coloured Earths, Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, Grand Bassin, Plaine Champagne and Black River Gorges, Aquarium Mauritius, Rochester waterfall, The Mauritius Glass Gallery, Trou aux Cerfs and Ile aux Cerfs, Waterpark Leisure village, The Natural History Museum and The Naval Museum.
You can also opt to travel by taxi or public bus to move around the island.  The latter is a great opportunity to mix with Mauritians who are ever ready to help tourists who travel around the island and it is common scene in Mauritius to see people on the roads helping tourists take the proper route or bus.  Bus service in Mauritius is excellent and cheap with several main operators like the National Transport Corporation, United Bus Service, Mauritian Bus Service and the Triolet Bus Service.  Almost every part of the island can be reached by bus though some buses and roads are not always in perfect condition.  However, even that contributes to make your holiday apart!  Buses normally operate from 05:30 to 20:30 in urban regions and 05:30 to 19:30 in rural regions.  There is also provision for a late service until 23:00 between Port Louis and Curepipe and vice versa.  Taxis can normally be hired from hotels or at taxi stands. The former have special permits to carry tourists.  The taxi fare should be discussed before starting the journey and they can be hired for half day or full day tour.  Previously taxis were of common makes but now you have also BMW, Mercedes and Audi vehicles as taxis for you to go around.
